Navigating the Crowdfunding world (WN)
Navigating the crowdfunding world
Quara: Does crowd fund seem like a reasonable way…?
There are many ways that people can make money through Crowdfunding. People can invest in other peoples businesses and either receive equity in the business or a fixed return on their money leant.
You could also invest in property through Crowdfunding. It’s a similar concept. A property developer needs money for a particular project and they raise small amounts of money from large groups of people using crowdfunding.
I think that Crowdfunding is disrupting the investing sector and putting the power back in the hands of the investors. It is a great way to spread your risk and reward portfolio. You are partnering with like-minded investors and you actually feel like you are apart of something.
However, it is very important that you do your homework before investing through a Crowdfunding company. Make sure that they are regulated by which every country they operate – FCA (UK) or SEC (US). Make sure that the crowdfunding company has a successful track record and a decent team and know what they are doing. At the end of the day, you want to make sure that your money is protected.
In the UK, we help people invest in property through crowdfunding from relatively little money. With property prices so high we help people who would not have necessarily been able to invest in property otherwise.
First time on Indiegogo?
What is Indiegogo and how does crowdfunding work?
Indiegogo is a platform to fund ingenious, work-in-progress products and ideas. Although contributing to a campaign is not the same as purchasing a product, when you support a crowdfunding project, you help bring ideas to life! Learn more.

Quara
Most “Kickstarter Experts” will tell you they have some secret sauce to make campaigns successful. From “proprietary” tech to access to large backer audiences, you don’t have to search too far before hearing one of these secrets.
I’m not going to sit here and tell you that no one has less-known tactics that are effective. But I am going to tell you that these secrets are not silver bullets to make a Kickstarter campaign successful.
Let’s use the 80/20 rule (Pareto’s Principle) to explain why. If you are new to the 80/20 rule, it states that “80% of the results come from 20% of the effort”.
The 20% is what you really want to focus on for a campaign. That 20% is made up of basic strategies that anyone can follow.
1) Talk to people about your idea
Kickstarter is great for validating product demand, but you should start the idea validation process much earlier. As Seth Godin puts it, we want to “market to people (and not at them)”.
This means picking up the phone or, dare I say it… meeting someone in person to tell them about your idea and ask questions. The person should be someone who you has the problem you are trying to solve.
2) Write down your product positioning
After going through the process of talking to real people, it’s very helpful to write out your product positioning. This will serve as the foundation for the rest of your campaign so it’s helpful to take time with this process.
Here is a questionnaire you can use to help you with this process.
3) Build basic marketing assets for pre-launch
With your messaging process complete, you’ll now want to create some basic marketing assets for your pre-launch. The core assets you should create are the following:
Product photography – if your budget is small, I wouldn’t recommend investing too much here. But getting some quality assets can help for later stages of this process because quality creative does help.
Landing page – your landing page is where you’ll be sending all the traffic during your pre-launch with the goal for people to sign up for your email list. There are many low cost landing page builders such as ClickFunnels, LeadPages, or building in a WordPress theme.
Email marketing – you’ll want to setup an automated email to go out to welcome people to your community and stay in contact with them. I recommend Mailchimp which is free up to 2,000 subscribers.
Facebook page – one of the best sources of traffic for your Kickstarter campaign will be Facebook so it’s good to start early and get your page setup.
4) Build your community
Start driving traffic to your landing page to gather sign-ups for your pre-launch email list. You can tap into many sources of traffic for this, but the most effective in my experience is Facebook advertising. Facebook ads aren’t easy, but they are also not rocket science.
If you are looking for a more in-depth guide on Facebook ads, you can check it out here.
Why do want to build the community before we launch?
Kickstarter has 40 million unique visitors per month. Much of that traffic is browsing their “Explore” page which shows the different projects in their categories. Your goal is to get high up in those rankings which operate a lot like Google Search: the higher you are in the results, the more clicks you get.
So how do we get high up in the rankings?
You have to drive some of your own traffic to the campaign first. And your pre-launch community is going to be the main source traffic when you launch.
Once Kickstarter & Indiegogo’s algorithm sees your campaign doing well, you will get a higher ranking.
5) Model successful campaign pages & videos
There has been nearly $6 billion raised on Kickstarter & Indiegogo. You don’t raise that much money without some campaigners being able to create effective campaign pages and videos.
Start by researching your competitors on Kickstarter/Indiegogo that have had successful campaigns. Take a look through at least 5 pages. Actually read the copy on all the pages from top to bottom. Identify patterns between the pages. Are any parts of the page structure similar? What type of language do they use to speak to the consumer? How do the pages make you “feel” when you look at them? Write down these patterns as you see them. The more you research, the easier it will be for you to identify these patterns.
What parts of the pages/videos you research are most persuasive? Why?
What parts jumped out at you? Why?
What parts are you going to steal?
Do not blatantly copy the exact words and imagery. When I say steal, I mean steal the idea and then reimagine it for your product. There’s no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to your campaign page & video. Using this tactic will get you 80% of the way there.
6) Launch
With your campaign page done and your community ready to go, there’s nothing else for you to do but launch it. Notify your community you’ve been building for the past couple months and watch the backers start to come in.
Using these straight forward and very non-secretive tactics, you can setup a very successful campaign on Kickstarter.

Geo Trash Management
Conquering plastic pollution, creating incentives for communities & resource’s from waste plastic.
Geotrashmanagement.com
Overview
GEO-TM is a trash-trading scheme that generates revenue from all types of plastic waste through recycling and bio-fuel processing. Waste plastic is bought from local people, creating an economy in trash that would otherwise end up in land fill, the ocean or burned. SE Asia alone contributes to 60% of the Worlds oceanic waste leakage. Our refuse derived bio-oils are sold to manufacturers of bio-fuels, revenue is distributed into collection services, trucks, community rewards and cash incentives.
Conquering Plastic Pollution
We are working to bring Waste Plastic Pyrolysis into Asia as part of our recycling program for end of life plastics. The intention is to work with the worlds leading Pyrolysis Plant Manufacturer, local government and our investors to develop an effective waste management system that can be duplicated and set up in many parts of South East Asia. By converting Trash into a renewable resource we create a value chain in what was once worthless.
Our Vision
The vision is to establish an initiative that effectively addresses plastic waste pollution. Our commitment is to facilitate coastal and communal plastic cleanup. As 80% of the current plastic pollution is from land-based sources, our focus must begin with the land based problem. Our system features a proven, environmentally safe method of cracking plastics back to basic elements, essentially reversing the plastic production process by way of Pyrolysis. All types of plastics can be processed however some types of plastics have more value as they are and are simply recycled.
We make that value accessible to people by providing collection services combined with rewards and incentive payments. We convert trash into cash, promote coastal and community cleanup events and provide alternatives such as biodegradable food packaging.
My Name is Andrew Sinclair and I’m an Australian who is passionate about environmental conservation and sustainability. I recently walked away from my job as a commercial diver doing underwater welding and construction to follow my passion of conservation.
I have seen first hand how good waste management can have an enormous effect on not only the environment but also people and the economy. I have also seen first hand how devastating bad waste management can be.
I believe socially conscious entrepreneurs such as our selves should look beyond profit and develop businesses that are not only viable but also tackle social challenges. I believe we have a model that is harmonious with achieving sustainable development goals, which are environmentally, socially and financially sound.
Our Systems
Our pilot Island (Langkawi) has 100 Thousand residents living in 48 Thousand homes and is visited by 2.3 Million Tourists per annum. Over 35 Thousand tons of trash is produced per annum or 95 Tons per day, which is all dumped in-land creating what can only be described as a Trash Mountain. We estimate at least 40% of this material is plastic, 38 Tons of plastic per day.
We plan to capture a majority of this material by supplying 10 Thousand Bins, 5 Compactor Trucks and contracted pickers.
Our recycling station will sort, wash and grind all end of life plastics and process 30 – 40 Tons per day of this plastic feed stock by Pyrolysis producing bio-oil, gas and carbon. The gasses produced are used for the plants heating process and scrubbed reducing emissions to nearly zero. The technology is tried, tested and functioning across the world, conforming to the most stringent environmental standards in the USA, Australia and Europe, producing approximately 15 Tons of bio-oil a day.
Our system is user friendly and secure, each participating household is allocated a bin fitted with a unique code/RFID tag. When the bin is collected our trucks RFID readers log the weight, the address and award the account holder with 1 credit. Each credit is based on 10% of the average daily income of the region according to available statistics.
Our system also features an App or online portal for users to track their credits, check collection dates or request extra pickups. Credits are transferred to the users bank account when requested. Volunteer Cleanup organizations are also awarded credits. Hotels and restaurants are encouraged to be socially conscious, and support their community by paying per bin we collect.
What We Need & How You Can Help
What we need is action Now! There are countless studies, reports, speculations and investigations being funded and they are very necessary but we must take action now.
We have the vision and the power now we need your support. Your contribution can help in so many ways, on so many levels. A contribution of $50 will pull 1,200 liters (5 Bin loads) of trash from the landfill and off the beaches. $100 will cover 2 Bins for the community and fund 30 collections (7,200 liters) See our campaign perks for more details. Sponsors will be named as founding members on our wall of fame and appreciation. A personal letter of sponsorship will be sent to each of our contributors.
Your support will show you stand with us, against the massive pollution problem we are facing. When we show a list of our supporters to the authorities they will see how many of us care, how many are demanding action. If you are unable to contribute financially then simply subscribe on our site www.geotrashmanagement.com, share our campaign and show you stand with us.
Every 2 weeks we will email our subscribers an update on our progress and all the happenings as they unfold. When our pilot is complete, and its success is proven we will begin again in the next location. Again and again until all communities that want action have our tools to conquer plastic pollution.
Get the word out and make some noise about this campaign! Use the Indiegogo share tools, become friends with us on Face Book at GEO-TM and/or visit our site. There you will see in great detail how this will work.
If you are a serious ethical investor or part of an investment group looking to finance an environmental project with real potential, please contact us. Investment options are available now. Contact us for more information and request a share holders agreement.
